Devere Eshelman
An Akron man, Devere Eshelman, 44, was killed Wednesday afternoon on a farm near Royal Center when a load of sliding logs struck him, resulting in internal injuries and hemorrhages. Death was instant.

Eshelman was working on the farm of Mrs. Laura Seehase south of Royal Center when the accident occurred. Deputy Sheriff Lionel Davis placed the time of death at about 1:30 o'clock.

The deputy reported that Eshelman was standing on top of the load of logs when the slide occurred. He was not crushed beneath the pile of logs but it was believed he was struck as the logs began to fall.

Eshelman was an employee of the Pike Lumber Company, Akron. He was born Feb. 4, 1911, on a farm near Akron to Adam and Ella (Henderson) Eshelman. In 1935 he was married to Eva Rager of Peru. Mr. Eshelman was a member of the Moose Lodge of Peru and the Modern Woodmen Order of Akron.

Survivors are his wife and a step-daughter, Mrs. Mary Lou Smith, both of Akron; two brothers, Charles, Bremen; and Alvin, Newton Falls, OH., and a sister, Mrs. Ruby Hyde, Warsaw. Three brothers preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. CST Saturday at the Sheetz funeral home, Akron. The Rev. Harold Conrad, assisted by the Rev. Claude Fawns, will officiate. Burial will be in the Akron I.O.O.F. cemetery.
