He was a Unionist in the War Between the States, Co. C, 2nd Rgmt. of Illinois Light Artillery as Private in Capt. James P. Flood's Company, enrolling 5th day of Aug.1861, deserting 20 July 1862. He again enrolled in the Civil War, alias George Ryman 15 Aug. 1862 in Co. D, 120th Illinois Infantry Volunteers, and was honorably discharged at Camp Butler, IL. He died 5 July 1905, Taylorville, IL.
