Cornelia Webster Skelley, the widow of John W. Skelley, died, at; her home, last Friday, July 19, after a long illness, during which time she was tenderly cared for by her three daughters, Mrs. M. D. Fulton, of Denver, Colorado, Mrs. Frank Mead, of Manchester and Mrs. Elmer E. Hicks, of Monticello.
Mrs. Fulton had spent all of her time with her mother, during the past eleven months. Mrs. Skelley was one of the early settlers of Monticello, having come here in 1853. She was born at Mishwaka, Indiana, January 3, 1843. She was married to John W. Skelley at the age of 14. She did her full share in accumulating the 500 acre farm that Mr. Skelley owned at the time of his death, 30 years ago. She was an industrious woman, who minded her own affairs, and devoted no time to the business of her neighbors, unless it became necessary to do so in acts of mercy or charity. Under such circumstances she was always prompt and liberal in doing for others. She was a good mother, and in turn who got in the days of extremity the care that always comes from daughters, who were properly reared, and who therefore feel the full weight of flllial obligation. Mrs. Skelley had been ill for more than a year, being entirely helpless, after sustaining a stroke of paralysis, which occurred February 9. She was the mother of 12 children, of whom only five survive, being the three daughters, herein before mentioned, and two sons, John Q. Skelley, of Rock River, Wyoming, and Ernest Skelley of this city. The funeral services were conducted at the family home, last Sunday afternoon, by Rev. C. E. Cushman. Interment, was made in Oakwood cemetery.
