Louise was active in several charities and was a member of the Boston Branch of the N.A.A.C.P. during the 1920s. She served on the board of trustees for the Sarah Fuller home for deaf children, a member of the Board of Trustees for Faulkner Hospital, and sat on the board of trustees for the Calhoun School, a school for African Americans in Alabama, established in-part by Louisa's father-in-law. She was also a member of the Appalachian Mountain Club.
