Amelia Schaeffer Pomeroy was born July 15, 1859, on a farm in Montello, Wisconsin. Amelia was one of thirteen children whose parents had immigrated from Germany in 1830. Amelia married Jack Gannon, a stone cutter, in 1881 in Westfield, WI. Amelia and Jack had two children, Walter and Maude. Jack left his family when Maude was one year old. Amelia, known as Millie, and her two children, ages five and four, moved to the settlement of Argyle about 1887 where Millie cooked at the Riley Brothers lumber camp. Both children attended the Argyle School. Later Millie moved her family to Amberg where she was a cook at the Aberdeen Hotel. Millie also owned a farm west of Amberg for a number of years. Millie married Frank Virgil Pomeroy, a widower with five children. Francis's children were Mrs. Carl (Thyra) Redeman, Vischer, Lola, Rensler, and Verl. No children were born to this marriage. Amelia lived out her life in Amberg and passed away at the Luther Home in Marinette on March 2, 1951 at the age of 91.
