NORTON, Va. - Ruby Collier Absher, 98, died Friday (Dec. 18, 1998) in Wellmont Lonesome Pine Hospital, Big Stone Gap, Va.
She was a member of the First Church of God in Norton, where she served as a Sunday school teacher for over 57 years. She was past president of the Norton Literary Club, past president of the Wise County Democratic Women, former member of the Norton Garden Club and a former member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy.
Surviving are two sons, Charles A. (Bud) Absher Jr., Big Stone Gap, Va., and Creed C. Absher, Norton, Va.; one daughter, Ella C. Cox, Johnson City; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three nieces and one nephew.
Calling hours are from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday at the First Church of God in Norton. Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at the church with the Rev. Robert Kespelher officiating.
Private burial service will be in the Powell Valley Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to the Women of the Church of God, P.O. Box 857, Norton, Va. 24273. Hagy Funeral Home, Norton, Va., is in charge of the arrangements.
