Velma Venell Scott, daughter of the late Lester Scott and Nannie Gurley Scott, was born March 15, 1921, in Scotts Hill, Tenn., and departed this life Sunday, Jan. 15, 2012, in Kennett, at the age of 90 years and 10 months.
Velma married Richard Scott in September 1940. He preceded her in death on April 15, 1985. She was also preceded in death by two children, Ronnie Scott and Carolyn Laster; two brothers, Elco Scott, Ruben Scott; four sisters, Edna Mullins, Euda Pierce, Berdie Mount and Evelyn Walker; four grandchildren, Brian Scott, Billy Kinnison, Kristie Johnson and Randy Russell and one great-great-grandson, Alex Archer.
Her survivors include one son, Larry Scott, of Judsonia, Ark.; three daughters, Barbara Harville of Hernando, Miss., Peggy Laster, of Kennett and Phyllis Becker, of Steele, Mo.; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; three brothers, Ellis Scott, Marvin Scott, and Roy Scott, all of Poplar Bluff, Mo., and other relatives and many friends.
Velma was a member of West Side Church of Christ in Kennett.
Burial was in Mt. Zion Cemetery at Steele, Mo.
Pallbearers were Jimmy Ingram, Bubba Potts, Matt Ross, Tuffy Laster, Hoss Davis and Bob Tomlinson.
