Donald L. Burton, 84, of Taylorville, IL, died at 9:00 a.m., Monday, January 16, 2012, at his residence.
He was born September 13, 1927, in Stonington, IL, the son of Lemual and Catherine Elizabeth Carroll Burton.
On November 19, 1953, he married Marilyn Jean Achenbach at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Taylorville. Mr. Burton was a veteran of World War II serving with the Merchant Marines and a veteran of the Korean War serving with the U.S. Army. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Taylorville. He retired from Caterpillar Tractor Co. after 30 years of service.
Surviving are his sons, Don Burton II and his wife, Sally and John Burton and his wife, Donna and a daughter, Debbie Burton. There are five grandchildren Sarah Burton, Amanda Scott and husband, John, Emily Burton, John Burton II and Joshua Burton; one great-grandchild, Laura Scott and two sisters, Della Myers and Norene Nolan.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; one grandson, Donnie L. Burton III and four brothers, Leonard Burton, Walter Burton, Carl Burton and William Burton.
Funeral services were held Thursday, January 19, 2012, at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Father Dan Willenborg officiating. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery, Taylorville. McClure Funeral Home, Taylorville, was in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers were Donald Burton II, John Burton, John Burton II, Joshua Burton, Dale Himstedt and Travis Partney.
