William D. (Bill) Lindsey, age 65, of Eureka, died Thursday, Nov. 18, 1993 at HCA Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.

He was born June 18, 1928 at Abilene, the son of William D. and Blanche (Gordon) Lindsey Sr. He was raised in the Abilene area, attending schools there and graduating from Abilene High School in 1946. He then entered the US Air Force and served in Europe. He returned to America in 1949. On July 31, 1949 Bill was united in marriage to Irene H. Ormsby in Abilene. He had met her in Birkenhead, England. Bill attended Pittsburg State Teachers College where he studied graphic arts. He was called into military service again when his unit was called into action and was stationed in Japan during the Korean Conflict.

Bill and Irene moved to Eureka in 1950, where he worked as a printer for The Eureka Herald for 32 years. They then began their own business, Lindsey Printing, in 1982.

He was involved in many community activities, including being a member of the Eureka Volunteer Fire Department for 35 years, serving as assistant chief for 20 of those years. He was a former member of the Eureka Jaycees, and was presented one of the first life memberships given by the Kansas Jaycees. He was a longtime member of Boy Scout Troop 216, serving as assistant scoutmaster, scoutmaster and chairman of several committees. He was also a Vigil member of the Order of the Arrow of Quivira Council, Boys Scouts of America, on the highest awards given in scouting. He was a member of the Greenwood County Fair Association for many years and held memberships in VFW Post 2712 of Eureka, the Modern Woodman of America and the First United Methodist Church of Eureka.

Survivors include his wife Irene of the Home; two sons Keith and Brian both of Eureka; grandchildren Rachel and Zachary; brother Robert Gordon Lindsey of Haysville; sister Bertha Jane Freeman of Abilene; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services were held at the First United Methodist Church in Eureka on Saturday, Nov. 20 with Pastor Lynn Sifrit officiating. Interment followed in the Greenwood Cemetery, with military honors conducted by VFW Post 2712.
