She retired from Okmulgee Schools System in May 1997 after 18 years of dedicated work as a secretary. Gayle was a charter member of the Belvin Baptist Church, Okmulgee. She was a member of the Elks and VFW Post 1189. She was Auxiliary President of Post 1189 and 2 time District President. She was a member of Okmulgee Indian Community and established their Smokeshop.
Preceding her in death were her parents, one grandson Braden Cusher, brothers Clifford Herberger, James Herberger, and Raymond Herberger and sisters Helen Vulbrock and Dorothy Webb.
