Henry's birthdate is unknown. He was born between November 23, 1842, and January 5, 1943. Henry enlisted as a private into Company A, 2nd Georgia Infantry Battalion, Confederate Army, on April 20, 1861. On June 15, 1861, he was assigned to the Columbus City Battalion Regiment. He later returned to Company A, 2nd Georgia Infantry Battalion, also called 2nd Battalion Sharpshooters. In 1864, he was promoted to 3rd Sergeant. His unit surrendered on April 9, 1865, at the Appomattox Court House in Appomattox County, Virginia. On May 6, 1875, Henry married Laura P Perkins in Hays County, Texas.

His burial location is uncertain. He was believed to be buried in the Devine Evergreen Cemetery, but his grave has not been located.
