Abraham was the son of Cornelius and Susan Melott Kyser of New York and Pennsylvania with siblings: Alma, Clay, Julia, Arnold, Esther, Martin, and James. He was the fourth child and the first three had been born in Pennsylvania. He married first Cecelia Mohr on 10 April 1860 in Ashland County and they lived with his family in Knox Township, Holmes County. Following her death, he married Della Snyder on 12 September 1894 in Allen County, Ohio. He was 67, she was 30. Abraham was a physician. In 1888, he was in California.
