Margie Dawn Sutton Chantrill, 84, of St. Anthony, died Monday, Jan. 16, 2012, in the Homestead Assisted Living Center.

Margie was born Dec. 31, 1927, to LaVon Allen Sutton and Lew Wallace Sutton in Rexburg. Margie was the third child and only daughter in a family that included four brothers, Lewis (who died at birth), Jay, Gail and Kenneth.

She had a great childhood growing up in Rexburg. Favorite activities of hers were swimming in the canals, roller skating, going on picnics and doing anything that kept her outdoors. She also developed a passion for reading.

She valued going to school very much, and after graduating from Madison High School, she moved to Boise and attended Links Business College to prepare for a career in business.

While working at the Rexburg cheese plant, she met La Vern Chantrill and they were married Oct. 17, 1947, in Rexburg. Their marriage was solemnized in the Rexburg Temple on June 20, 2009. LaVern brought a daughter, Carol Lee, to the marriage with him, and Margie enjoyed making a home for her new family. Daughter Catherine Shurtz, followed by Jean, James (Patty) and Judy (Orrin) Coy, filled out the family and kept her very happy and busy.

In l960, she went to work for the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation office in St. Anthony for 13 years. After a short stint at the Youth Services Center, she finished her career at the Federal Land Bank in Rexburg, retiring in l990. She appreciated working with the farmers and ranchers and could tell you who owned just about any piece of ground in the area.

Retirement brought new adventures to Mom. She was able to help with the grandchildren, which gave her tremendous joy. Mom loved to hike in the summer, and there weren't many trails in the Teton Range she didn't explore. Winter found her cross-country skiing whenever the weather and snow conditions permitted.

Margie was a dedicated member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She had a strong testimony of the gospel and was happy to give her time and efforts to the many church positions she was called to serve in.

She spent the last few years of her life at the Homestead Assisted Living Center in St. Anthony, brightening the lives of all those she came in contact with. She treasured her friends and neighbors, and most importantly, her family.

Margie was preceded in death by her parents, husband and two brothers.

She is survived by two brothers, Jay and Kenneth; her children; 12 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 19, in the St. Anthony 3rd and 4th Ward LDS church, with Bishop DelRay Davenport officiating.
Burial will be in St. Anthony Riverview and Cemetery.
