Oldest daughter of Richard Chandler, Jr.(1775-1859)and Charity Parks Chandler(1776-1857). It is believed she moved with the family from North Carolina to Franklin County, Georgia around 1813 as a young girl. She was married three times and first to Abel Carter in Franklin County, Georgia. They had several children right away and then Abel died unexpectedly. She was widowed with children for several years. These children where entered into a Georgia Indian Land Lottery where they had successful draws that where managed by her father Richard. Some of this land was in Early County.
Abel Carter and Matilda had been married on 2/26/1818 in Franklin County, Georgia.
Many of these Chandler's and their kin started moving to Carroll County, Ga. in the 1830's. There where many land transactions going on with land won in the lottery's and elsewhere.
The second husband was Gabriel Smith and she married him on September 30, 1837, in Carroll Co., Ga.. He was a revolutionary war veteran popular in the area.
Her 3rd husband was Jesse Brown and they where married about or after 1841.
Matilda is thought to have lived until after 1880 but her burial spot is unknown. More later as time permits.
