He was married to Clementine Hyskell.

A resident of Indiana for 50 years and he had been associated with the Rochester & Pittsburgh Coal Company for more than 48 years. He retired in 1981 as Assistant to the Vice President of Operations.

He was preceded in death by his parents;
two brothers, Jason & James Hitchings;
and two sisters:
Esther Hitchings and Clara Gander.
