Steve A. Abrants, 86, of 598 Great Rd. died Saturday at St. Joseph Hospital, Providence. He was the husband of the late Yvonne (Perron) Abrants.

Born in Parada, Portugal, a son of the late Juaquin and Maria (Marques) Abrants, he came to North Smithfield in 1925.

Mr. Abrants was a noted industrialist in the North Smithfield area. He worked in construction for a number of years, and was a forman for the Turner Construction Co. for several years. In 1940, he established the Steve Abrants Wool Garnetting Co. which he operated until 1964. Many of his innovative ideas are still in use today throughout the industry. He was a founder and first president of the Portuguese-American Club, Forestdale.

He leaves a son, Steve R. Abrants of North Smithfield; a daughter, Doris Bolduc of Hummelstown, Pa.; a sister, Incarnacao Alves in Portugal; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be held Wednesday at 9 a.m. from the Fournier and Fournier Funeral Home, 463 S. Main St., Woonsocket, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 at John's Church, Church Street. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
