Joe Milton Bumgarner was a son of Edgar Ross Bumgarner and Jonnie Mae Flowers Bumgarner. After the death of his mother in 1936, he was raised by his maternal grandparents, John Thomas "Tom" Flowers and Zallan Eastwood Flowers of Spencer Mountain, NC. Joe was married to Rachel Irene Day. They were the parents of three sons:
1. Joe Milton Bumgarner, Jr. (June), Hurdle Mills, NC
2. Chad Thomas Bumgarner (Stephanie "Sam"), Gastonia, NC; and
3. William Marty Bumgarner, deceased.
Joe was also survived by brothers: Thomas Leroy Bumgarner (Lorene), Dallas, NC; James Bumgarner (Jane), Stanley, NC; sisters: Faye Bumgarner Bynum (Hoyt), Iron Station, NC; Sandra Bumgarner Tate (Dean); and stepmother, Ruby Bumgarner, Stanley, NC. Also survived by grandchildren: Katie, M.J., Bailey, Abbey, Chase and Avery Bumgarner and a number of nieces and nephews. Joe was an auto mechanic and taught for 29 years at North Gaston High School in the vocational auto mechanics class. He was a member of Ranlo Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and Sunday School Teacher. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend.
