Raymond P Barnes 1968 pg 590
"Tipton T Fishburn died, age 72, October 11th (marker has April 11) at his home 1001 Patterson Avenue. ...although a rather peculiar, religiously inclined type of man, but honesty and ambitious to truly set a good example and live a Christian life as he saw it was unquestioned. Certainly he did not hate his fellow man, but only the evil which he believed influenced so many and which man recognized and failed to ward off. His love of humanity could be no better expressed than institutions which benefited by his will, for he left $50,000 to the Roanoke Hospital and $5000 to the YWCA, amongst others."
