George Vincent Allen, 80, of Shelbyville, died Saturday, May 13, 2006, at Kindred Hospital, Indianapolis.
Born March 15, 1926, in Boggstown, he was the son of James A. and Katherine Emma (Berger) Allen. He married Dorothy Marie Aldridge, and she preceded him in death on Aug. 17, 2003.
Survivors include five sons, Robert Allen of Greenfield, Joseph Allen of Edinburgh, Barney Allen of Indianapolis, John Allen of Marietta and William Allen of Fairland; one daughter, Diane (husband, David) Bogue of Waldron; one sister, Eva Bannon of Pendleton; 16 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. He also was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Laura Faye Allen; five sisters; and two brothers.
Mr. Allen had been a factory worker at Bridgeport Brass in Indianapolis. During World War II, he was employed at Camp Atterbury. He coached the Lions Club basketball team to a city championship. Mr. Allen was a member of First Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Murphy-Parks Funeral Service, 703 S. Harrison St. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Dan McCollough officiating. Burial will be in Miller Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Association, in care of Murphy-Parks Funeral Service, 703 S. Harrison St., Shelbyville, IN 46176.
