"Pioneer Heritage: A McColley Family History" by Dallas G. McColley, 1993, pg 242-243: "GRANT AARON McCOLLEY was born April 6, 1897 at Freeborn, Minn. During World War I, he was a private in the Army from September 5, 1918 until February 21, 1919. He was stationed at Camp Grant, Ill and contacted influenza. His condition became so critical that his father was notified that he wasn't expected to live. His condition improved, but he could never remember that week of his life. He married Freda Margaret Haushahn March 31, 1920 at New Richland, Minn. She was born February 17, 1901 at Washburn, Ill and was the daughter of Walter and Anna (Corbin) Haushahn. Grant was a farmer by occupation. He worked at the University Farm in Waseca for seven years. They then rented farms in Waseca County until 1942, when they purchased a 160 acre farm in Otisco tws of Waseca Co. For a time before his retirement, he worked at Herters in Waseca making fiberglass boats. They remained on the farm until 1964, when they moved into Waseca. Grant was an able horseman. It has been often said that when a new horse was needed to work in the fields, that he would go to an auction and always picked the "outlaw" of the sale. It wasn't long until the horse made a good workhorse. Freda had a love for flowers and had many, both in the house and in the gardens outside. In her later years, she developed a hobby of collecting wind chimes and had over 100 hanging in the house and porch. Grant died January 19, 1971 at Minneapolis and Freda died January 22, 1986 at Waseca. They are buried in Woodville Cemetery at Waseca. They had ten children, Harry, Dale, Marlin, Lorna, Lyle, Lenard, Duane, David, Judith, and Clifford."
