Sophronia Ann was born to William Henderson and Margaret "Peggy Brank on August 4, 1830 in Garrard County, Kentucky. She married James B. Merryman on Sept. 25, 1851 and had 3 children (2 died in infancy) but only 1 daughter, Margaret Jane Merryman survived to old age. Sophie's husband, James enlisted in the Civil War on the Union side with Colonel Faulkner's Regiment, 1st Calvary. He was one of the first to die at the Battle of Wildcat Mountain, Kentucky on October 21, 1861. Sophronia then married Erastus B. Hancock Sept. 23, 1869 and they soon moved with her daughter Maggie to Illinois. Sophronia ended up going to her daughter's house in Kentucky in mid April of 1903 and died at her daughter's house. She is buried in Berea Cemetery.
