Obituary from The Appleton City Journal, Appleton City, St. Clair, MO, Thursday, June 2, 1921:

F. H. OUDERKIRK DIES SUDDENLY

Francis H. Ouderkirk was born in Michigan, Sept. 10, 1850. He was married to Mary L. Casperson, Feb. 26, 1882. His wife preceded him to the land of the great majority, Mar. 6, 1918. To this union were born a son and a daughter who survive the parents: Darwin Ouderkirk of Huerfano, Colo., and Mrs. Walter Piepmeier of this community. Two brothers of the deceased are also living: "Jack" Ouderkirk of this city, and Charles, of Greeley, Colo.
Mr. Ouderkirk came to St. Clair county with his parents at the age of 19 years, settling on a farm six miles east of Appleton City, where he lived until 1914, when he retired and located in Appleton City until the death of his wife. Since that period he has lived alternately with his children and alone. Not long before his death he purchased property on West Spring street in El Dorado Springs, Mo., where he has lived until his death which occurred some time in the night of May 27th, 1921. He was found dead in his bed about 10 o'clock on May 28. The cause of his death was attributed by the physician to apoplexy. His body was brought to the home of his daughter, Mrs. Walter Piepmeier, four miles south of town, where it was kept until Tuesday afternoon, then taken to the Christian church where funeral services were conducted by Elder H. E. Carpenter, after which his burial took place in the city cemetery.
The bereaved have the sympathy of the many friends of the family.
