Fred M. Carr, 97, formerly of Barnstead, died on Nov. 7, 2007, at Forest View Manor, in Meredith, N.H.

Born in Pittsfield, N.H., on Oct. 11, 1910, he was the son of Archie B. and M. Marguerite (Cram) Carr.

He grew up in the Pittsfield and Barnstead area. He attended Pittsfield and Barnstead schools and resided in Barnstead for many years. He has been a resident of Meredith for the past 15 years.

He went to work at a young age for the Union Telephone Company and retired as a lineman after 49 years with the company.

He was a member of the Earl B. Clark American Legion Post, in Barnstead.

He was a U.S. Army World War II veteran and served in the Philippines.

He was predeceased by his son, Glenn O. Holmes, who died in 1994, and daughter, Virginia Holmes, who died in 1992.

Survivors include three sons, Earl Carr of Bonifay, Fla., George Carr of Pittsfield, N.H., Warren Carr of Rochester, N.H.; 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held in the Riverview Cemetery, Barnstead, on Tuesday at 2 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the NH Human Society, PO Box 572, Laconia, NH 03246; or the Community Health and Hospice, N. Main St., Laconia, NH 03246.
