Jeanette Katherine Carignan, 91, formerly of Portsmouth died Sunday May 24, 2009, at Oceanside Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Hampton.

Born April 7, 1918, in Dover the daughter of James and Martha (McGlone) Brierley, Mrs. Carignan was a graduate of St. Mary School and McIntosh Business College. She had lived in Portsmouth for many years.

She was a secretary having worked at the former M & M Bakery in Dover and later for the UNH Air Force ROTC Program for 25 years where she was affectionately known as Mrs. C.

The widow of Adrien Carignan she is survived by two daughters: Jane McMaster and her companion Andy Swett of Dover; Nan Stillman and husband Bill of Palm Coast, Fla.; three grandchildren Lianne McMaster-Valez, John McMaster and Katie McMaster, three great-grandchildren Gwynneth, Reilly and Aidan. She also leaves two sisters: Alice Grimes and husband Harold; and Winifred Natoli all of Florida; and nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, a sister Helen Kidney and a brother Larry Brierley predeceased her.

There are no calling hours. Private family funeral services will be held. Burial will be in St. Mary New Cemetery.
