William Abbes rites held

Funeral services were held last week for William N. Abbes, 83, of 8505 30th Av. N.W., Seattle apartment-house owner. He died April 8.

A native of Minnesota, Mr. Abbes came to Seattle in 1900 with his family from Santa Clara, Calif. He attended Seattle College (now Seattle University) and later was a mail carrier in the Rainier Valley.

Mr. Abbes went to Alaska in 1920 and fished commercially. He later lived near Petersburg, where he was a fur farmer for 25 years. He returned to Seattle in 1948.

Mr. Abbes and some Queen Anne Hill area merchants were instrumental in opening the Mercer Street branch of the National Bank of Commerce in 1945.

Mr. Abbes owned the La Charm and Olympic View apartments on Queen Anne Hill.

Surviving are his wife, Elsie A.; a daughter, Mrs. Ruth Martin, Edmonds, and a sister, Mrs. Josephine Casey, Seattle.
