Charles Edward "Pete" Sanbower Sr., 79, of 27 Atlantic Ave., Hagerstown died Saturday, Dec. 23, 2006, at Washington County Hospital.
Born June 10, 1927, in Smithsburg, he was the son of the late John W. Sanbower and Margaret Anna Shank Sanbower.
He was employed by Sears and Roebuck, as a mechanic in the automotive department, retiring after 26 years.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army.
He was a member of the North American Rod and Gun Club, Western Maryland Sportsman's Association, Quay Rock Hunting Club, Clear Spring American Legion Post 222 and was a hunter safety instructor for the state of Maryland.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Helen E. Sanbower; three daughters, Theryl L. Ahalt and Tammy L. Joia, both of Fairplay, and Debra D. Moats of Williamsport; one son, Charles E. Sanbower Jr. of Hagerstown; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by one sister and four brothers.
Services will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home in Hagerstown. The Rev. Hank Mansell will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park in Hagerstown.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
