Raymond J. Ruffing, 85, of Bismark Road, Bellevue passed away peacefully Monday afternoon at the Ruffing Family Care Center in Bloomville surrounded by his family after a lengthy illness.
Mr. Ruffing was born November 23, 1924 to the late Clarence and Bertha (Gerber) Ruffing in rural Bellevue. He was a member of the former St. Sebastian's Catholic Church, Bismark, and St. Gaspar del Bufalo, Marywood.
He was a member of the Huron County Farm Bureau and a former member of both Attica and Bellevue Knights of Columbus. He was a retired farmer who loved farming and taking care of animals, especially his beloved cat "Curious".
He is survived by his wife, Anna (Shell) Ruffing, whom he married June 8, 1950 and recently observed their 60th wedding anniversary. He is also survived by 4 daughters, Theresa (Howard) Wyrick of Bellevue, Joan (Sonny) Garrett of Tacoma, Washington, Carol (Ron) Fluharty of Plymouth, Darlene (James) Borton of Port Clinton; 4 sons, Donald (Cindy) Ruffing of Bellevue, Kenneth (Barbara) Ruffing of Rockwall, TX, Leo (Jackye) Ruffing and Ed (Kay Fox) Ruffing, both of Bellevue; 12 grandsons, 12 granddaughters, 2 step granddaughters, 2 step great grandsons, and 2 step great granddaughters. He was preceded in death by his son Urban Ruffing, brothers, Gilbert and Harold Ruffing and a sister Frances Ruffing.
Friends will be received on Friday, July 9, 2010 from 6-9 p.m. at Foos and Foos Funeral Service, 151 Yorkshire Place, Bellevue. A funeral mass will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Gaspar del Bufalo Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St. Sebastian Cemetery, Bismark.
