Morrison U. Applegate enlisted at Wheeling, West Virginia, on February 23, 1864, for a period of 3 years. He was paid a bounty of $60, and received $13 for his first month's pay. Born in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, he was 36 years old, a farmer, gray eyes, sandy hair, light complexion, and 5 feet 10 inches tall. Private Applegate died of disease in hospital at Winchester on or about February 5, 1865.
