His mother, Cynthia recently widowed for the second time (Jesse Landrum Jolley 1863) had fled to Jefferson Tennessee as the Civil war raged. She and two of her older sons, James and Robert were with her and her 3rd husband, James Roberson working his farm. William appears on the same 1870 census, also in Jeffeson Tennessee doing farm work for Dr Hood. It is not known what happened to William after 1870 or when he died.
