The Star Press - Muncie, INMUNCIE - Byron "Barney" DeLong, age 75, passed away Tuesday, February 20, 2007, at his residence following an extended illness. He was born February 7, 1932 in Muncie where he was a life long resident. He retired from the Muncie Fire Department Station #1 after 25 years of service. He served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. He enjoyed spending time with his family and woodworking. He is survived by his wife of 49 years: Marcia(Maynard) DeLong. 4 Children: Kim (husband Arnold) Saenz, Julie(husband Joe) Smith, Donna (husband Gator) Moistner, and Mark(fiance' Heidi Hite) DeLong. 2 Brothers: Richard (wife Betty)DeLong, and John (wife Betty) DeLong. 10 Grandchildren: Michael,Steven, Sara, Julie, Lindsy, Brian, Marisa, Jacob, Joey, and Jessica. 3 Great Grandchildren: Kristofer, Kaleb, and Hannah. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his Parents: Oden and Velma (Mahoney) DeLong, and a Son: Gregory Allen DeLong. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, February 23, 2007 at Elm Ridge Funeral Home with Rev. Brad Smith officiating. Military Rites will be conducted by the Veterans of Delaware County Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 1:30-2:30 p.m. on Friday,February 23, 2007 at Elm Ridge Funeral Home. Entombment will follow at Elm Ridge Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to the Fairlawn Church of Christ "Guys Nite Out" 6108 West Bethel Ave. Muncie, IN 47304.
