Ronald Albert Stutz of Westfield, Mass., died Thursday at the Baystate Medical Center surrounded by his family.
Ron was born in Butler to Albert Joseph Stutz and Margret (Beno) Stutz.
He grew up in the Butler area, graduating from Butler High School in 1952. In 1978, Ron was inducted into the Butler Hall of Fame for his athletic achievements in basketball and football, and some of his records still stand today.
Ron is survived by his beloved wife, Janet Lewis Stutz, of 55 years. He also is survived by his three children, Debra Lynn Borgatti and her fiance, Patrick Miles, of Westfield, Donna Sue Pighetti and her husband, Karl Pighetti, of Westfield and Douglas Ronald Stutz and his wife, Mary Ellen Stutz, of Southampton, Mass.
Ron also is survived by seven grandchildren, David Borgatti and his wife, Sara Borgatti, of Weymouth, Mass., Mark Borgatti of Merrimack, N.H., Nicole Pighetti of Newport, R.I., Shawn Pighetti of Westfield and Courtney Stutz, Chad Stutz, and Chase Stutz, all from Southampton. Survivors include a brother-in-law, Richard Rider, and two sisters-in-law, Jean Stutz McKivigan and Sarah Braden, all of Butler. He also leaves many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brothers, Raymond, Richard and David; and a sister, Jean Rider.
While attending Indiana State University for basketball, he was drafted into the Army, where he served two years in Frankfurt, Germany. While in Germany, he played on an all-star basketball team that toured Europe.
Ron was the operations manager at ServiStar from 1961 until he retired in 1992.
He was civically active, coaching many youth athletic teams, including basketball and football. He was a past president of the Westfield Youth Football program.
He eventually found his greatest and most proficient role in life when he was blessed with the title "Papa." He spent countless hours caring for, teaching and enjoying his grandchildren, each of whom will remember him fondly.

STUTZ - Calling hours for Ronald Albert Stutz, who died Thursday, Nov. 4, 2010, will be Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Firtion-Adams Funeral Home, 76 Broad St., Westfield, MA 01085.
Donations can be made in Ron's honor to the Bronson Rehabilitation Unit at Noble Hospital, 115 W. Silver St., Westfield, MA 01085.
