MARRIAGE ANNOUNCEMENT: Foster-Abbatt [sic] {Abbott} Nuptials Held Yesterday - Miss Martha K. FOSTER became the bride yesterday of Samuel L. ABBOTT, Jr., a young businessman of San Francisco, at a pretty but quiet ceremony at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Foster. The bride's sister, Miss Louisana [sic] {Louisiana} Foster, and Edward Eyre, a close friend of Mr. Abbott, attended the young couple as bridesmaid and groomsman. The floral decorations were simple but beautiful. The Rev. Lynn T. White and the Rev. F. W. Clampett, the latter of San Francisco, were the officiating clergymen. Following the ceremony the guests few in number and including but the relatives and closest friends, partook of the wedding dinner, after which the couple left for San Francisco, their future home. Mr. Abbott is the son of S. L. Abbott, vice-president of the Security Savings Bank of San Francisco, and is employed by Maillard & Schmeidell, prominent commission brokers of San Francisco.

'Fairhills Feast' - Thanksgiving was a celebratory time for the Foster family, according to Martha Foster Abbot, one of nine children of philanthropist and railroad and banking magnate Arthur W. Foster. Born in 1891 at Fairhills, the family's 180-acre estate in San Rafael, Abbot described a particular Thanksgiving dinner there with 52 family members: "We had long tables that went down between the two parlors, and there were three or four roast turkeys brought on and carved at the table by the girls. For some reason we girls were trained to carve, not the boys. After dinner there was no separation of the men and the women, and maybe some of us went to play billiards."
