FAIRFIELD — Catherine Craig Heslep, 66, of Fairfield, child of God and daughter of Martin and Lillie Sensabaugh Heslep, went to be with our Lord, Sunday, Jan. 8, 2012. Catherine is preceded in death by her parents and brother, James Heslep.

Catherine was born in Rockbridge County on May 17, 1945.

Her childhood was spent in the sheltering arms of her family. She later become a resident of the Central Virginia Training Center, Lynchburg. In recent years, she moved to a new home, finding a new family at Rockbridge Meadows Group Home for Women. Catherine was very active at the Magnolia Center in Buena Vista participating in plays, games and her favorite activity, crafts.

Catherine loved the outdoors and especially sitting in the sunshine. Most recently, Catherine made her home at Heritage Hall Nursing Home.

Catherine is survived by her sister, Peggy Denny and husband, Don; her brother, Jack Heslep and wife, Gail; and by numerous nieces and nephews. She is survived by many friends at Rockbridge Meadows, the Magnolia Center and Heritage Hall.

All who knew her will miss her happy smile and laughing eyes.

A funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2012, at Harrison Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jim Simmons and Chaplin Tony Nix officiating. Burial will be at Fairfield Cemetery.

Reception to follow at Fairfield United Methodist Church social hall.

There will be no visitation at the funeral home. Catherine loved colors and sunshine. The family request that rather than mourn her passing with dark colors, we celebrate her life with color.

In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to the Magnolia Center, 391 E. 29th St., Buena Vista, VA 24416.

Pallbearers will be Tommy Seaman, Lou Briganti, John Whitesell, Eugene Fitzgerald, Pete Norcross, Wayne Heslep and Marty Anderson.

Arrangements will be handled by Harrison Funeral Home and Crematory, Lexington, VA.
