Joseph Rosko, Sr., passed away early Thursday morning, at the home of his son, Joseph, 1609 South Seventh street, following an attack of pneumonia.
Mr. Rosko was born in Poland, near the German border, in 1834. He grew to young manhood and was married there, emigrating with his wife and one child to the United States when 28 years old.
The family arrived in Chicago during the Civil War, in 1862, and after working in that city for two years, moved to Two Rivers, a settlement near St. Cloud, where Mr. Rosko took up a homestead.
It is interesting to note that he hauled supplies with an ox team for the building of the Northern Pacific Railway through Brainerd, and moved to this city in 1880, settling on a farm now in the city limits at the south end of Broadway where the family lived until ten years ago. Since that time he has lived with sons in and near Brainerd.
Mr. Rosko preceded her husband in death eight years ago. Surviving are six sons and one daughter. They are, John Rosko, whose address is unknown, and who has not been heard from for several years; Jacob, farmer near Brainerd; Anthony, a farmer near Gull Lake, Sask., Canada; Joseph Rosko, Jr., employed at the local N. P. Shops; Peter and Henry associated in the garage business in the city, and Mrs. Mary Hohbein, of Seattle, Washington.
The body was prepared for burial by B. C. McNamara, and will be at the Joseph Rosko, Jr., home on South Seventh street. Services will be held from the home on Saturday morning at 7:30 o'clock, and from St. Francis Catholic Church at 8 o'clock. Interment will be made in the family plot in Evergreen cemetery.
The sorrowing relatives have the sincere sympathy of the community in their sad bereavement. (Brainerd Daily Dispatch, 06 March 1925, p. 14)
