A retired railroad employee, Harry E. Smith, 66, 1810 Adams Avenue, died at a local hospital early this morning, February 29. He is survived by his wife Mildred E. Smith and other relatives.
Arrangements are pending at Crippin-Daniels Funeral Chapel.

HARRY EDWARD SMITH
Harry Edward Smith, 66, 1810 Adams Avenue, died at a local hospital February 29. He had retired in December, 1967, as a Union Pacific Storekeeper.
Services will be Saturday, Mar. 2, at 3:30 p.m. at Crippin-Daniels Funeral Chapel with Rev. Boone L. White officiating. Burial will be at Hillcrest Cemetery.
Smith was born in Elgin October 28, 1901, attended school there and moved to La Grande in 1926. He was married to Mildred Powell in Baker, May 5, 1928. The couple had made their home in this vicinity for forty years. He was a member of the First Methodist church, Union Pacific Railroad Senior Old Timers Club and Eagles Lodge No. 259.
He is survived by his widow Mildred E. Smith, La Grande; one daughter, Delores Patterson, Baker, one son, Ronald Smith, La Grande; step-mother, Mrs. Henrietta Smith, Elgin; two brothers, Thomas of Ontario and George of Elgin; three sisters, Florence Smith, La Grande, Marie Blanchard, Portland and Beulah Sams, Vancouver, Wash.; and one grandson, Dirk Patterson, Baker.
