For many years Ezekiel was a saloon owner and farmer in Social Circle, Walton County, Georgia. He joined Company F 16th Infantry Regiment of Walton County, Georgia on 19 Jul 1861 for service during the Civil War. Wounded at Chancellorsville, VA. on 3 May 1863. He attained the rank of First Sergeant during his enlistment. He and Martha were the parents of Mary (Carter), Knox (Stauffacher), Eugenia (Jepson) and Elizabeth (Phillips).
