He was born Aug. 15, 1930, in Madison, the son of John and Harriet (Montague) Harrington. James was a 1948 graduate of Madison Central High School. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving from 1951 to 1953. He married LouAnn Waelti Nov. 6, 1965, in Freeport, Ill. James was employed as a letter carrier with the United States Postal Service, retiring in 1990. He was a member of Central Christian Church where he served as a Lay Pastor. James was also a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers No. 715. He was an avid golfer.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years, LouAnn Harrington of Beloit; son, Thomas (Vicki) Harrington of Sun Prairie; two daughters, Tami (Dan) Vance of Kentucky, and Tresa (Mark) Syverson of Menomonee Falls; 11 grandchildren, Britnie, Karie, Hunter, Tyler, Megan, Matthew, Marcus, and Marissa Harrington, and Haylie, Emma, and Julia Syverson; brother, Richard Harrington of Wisconsin; three sisters, Regina Emerson of Oshkosh, Barbara (Bill) Miller and Susan (James) Clifcord both of Madison; daughter-in-law, Michelle of Clinton; several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents; two sons, Mike and Timothy E. Harrington; sister, Julie Washa; brothers, John "Jack" Harrington and Ronald Harrington; sister and brother-in-law, Geraldine (David) Eagen.
Jim's family would like to give a special thank you to the staff of Beloit Health & Rehabilitation Center for the loving care they gave him.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 12, 2012, in CENTRAL CHRISTIAN CHURCH, 2460 Milwaukee Road, Beloit, with Pastor David Meding officiating. Burial will be in Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens, South Beloit, Ill. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the DALEY MURPHY WISCH & ASSOCIATES FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORIUM, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit. Visitation will also be Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of service in the church. A memorial will be established in Jim's name.
