DEATH CLAIMS SAM BAKER, AGED 90
Former City Employe Had Lived Here 74 Years; Rites Wednesday
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in McNary's Memorial Chapel here for Samuel Baker, 90, resident of Colusa for 74 years and a covered wagon pioneer who died about 5 o'clock Saturday evening in the family home on Twelfth street.
Mr. Baker, born February 24, 1853, in Keatsville, Mo., came across the plains in a covered wagon, following the Oregon Trail route, with his parents the late Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Baker, in 1863.
The Baker family settled in Oregon, residing there for a short time, then came to Colusa to spend the remainder of their lifetime here.
Mr. Baker engaged in farming for a time and was widely known as a teamster. Many years ago he was employed by the City of Colusa. He had been in fair health and was able to be up and about until last month, but complications arising from his advanced age brought death late Saturday. His sister-in-law, Mrs. Al Baker, had been assisting in his care the past few weeks.
SON AND DAUGHTER
Mr. Baker is survived by a son, Walter Baker, of Colusa, and a daughter, Mrs. "Jack" Marisch of San Francisco. The latter is the former Jessie Baker.
A sister, Mrs. K. Boyd, and a brother, Herbert Baker, both of Emeryville, also survive.
The decedent was a member of the Trinity Methodist Church of Colusa and Colusa Lodge No. 133, Odd Fellows.
The Rev. Herbert E. Stotts will officiate at the services Wednesday, with the Odd Fellows also taking part in the last rites for their departed brother.
Interment will be made in Colusa Cemetery.
