The death of Mrs. Lena Lane, a resident of this community for over 30 years previous to 1924, when she and her husband the late Thomas Morrison Lane, moved to Haxtun, occurred at the place, March 4.
The funeral service was held Wednesday, March 8 at 2:00 p.m. and was in charge of Rev. Gile V. Wilson, pastor of the First Methodist Church at Haxtun. Interment was made in the Holyoke cemetery following the service.
Mrs. Lena Ella Lane, nee Donnelly, daughter of Robert S. and Anne Marcelina Donnelly, was born May 3, 1859, at Washington, D.C. She passed away at her home in Haxtun, Colorado, Saturday morning, March 4, 1944. She had lived 84 years, 10 months, and one day. Her death came after several weeks illness.
On January 17, 1892, she was united in marriage to Thomas Morrison Lane, at Holyoke, Colorado. They went immediately to a farm southeast of Holyoke where they lived for more than thirty years. Her husband was engaged in farming and stock raising. They moved to Haxtun, Colorado in 1924. This was her home until her death. Mr. Lane preceded her in death on November 29, 1940.
Mrs. Lane was the mother of three children; two sons, William Harold Lane of Denver, Colorado, and Lloyd Cecil Lane, Ship's Clerk in the United States Navy, of Lido Beach, Long Island, New York, a daughter, Mrs. Helen Mable Knutson of Exira, Iowa.
She is survived by her children; five grandchildren, Mrs. Vera Ruth Lindholm (Mrs. J.E. Lindholm) of Audubon, Iowa, Mrs. Phyllis Knutsen Bailey (Mrs. Byron B. Bailey) of San Diego, California, Mrs. Virginia Lane Buckmiller (Mrs. Earl Buckmiller) and Miss Joan Lane, both of Denver, Colorado, and Maurice Christian Knutsen, of Exira, Iowa; two great grandchildren, Richard and Kathleen Buckmiller.
Besides these she has living four sisters, Mrs. Ana Schenk and Mrs. Ada Reid of Blair, Nebraska, Mrs. Clara Finch and Miss Celeste Donnelly of Haxtun, Colorado. She was one of a family of fourteen children.
She was a member of the First Methodist Church of Haxtun. Faithful in her Christian duties, she was a valuable worker in all the church activities. Her sweet spirit and noble character endeared her to all who knew her. Her friends were numbered by her acquaintances. She came to her transition in strong faith and full assurance.
