Mr. Emmett O. Blackburn, 91, died early Saturday morning (January 7, 2012) at Baptist Village Retirement Communities following an extended illness.

He was a native of Dothan, AL and had lived most all of his life in Ware County. He was the son of the late Emmett Sidney Blackburn and Colleen Green Blackburn. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Green Blackburn, a sister, Corith Coleman and his sons, Rick Blackburn and James E. "Jim" Blackburn.

Mr. Blackburn had served with the United States Navy during World War II. He was a former Deacon of Brunswick Primitive Baptist Church and was currently a Deacon of Comfort Chapel Primitive Baptist Church. He was a former long-time member of the Waycross Exchange Club and was a member of Frank C. Folk Lodge # 192 F. & A.M. and a member of The Hasan Shrine Temple.

Mr. Blackburn was a real estate developer and had formerly owned and operated Blackie's Auto Parts for many years. He had retired from the Security Department of Satilla Regional Medical Center.

Survivors include his wife of thirty six years Margaret L. Barker Blackburn of Waycross; four daughters, Sandy Blackburn and Sue Welch (husband Lewis) both of Waycross, Jeane Myddelton (husband Jimmy) of Tallahassee, Fl, and Jill Tompkins (husband Dan) of Emigrant, MT; nine grandchildren, Sedman Kenney of Waycross, Richard Welch (wife Megan) of Valdosta, Jim Blackburn (wife Beth) of Waycross, Stacy Blackburn Carson (husband Mark) of Brunswick, Jake Myddelton (wife Sandra) of Atlanta, Molly Smith (husband Craig) of Tallahassee, Sydney Parker (husband John) of Greenville, SC, Lindsey Tompkins and Taylor Tompkins both of Coeur D' Alene, ID; a daughter-in law, Bonnie Giddens Blackburn of Waycross and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at Music Funeral Home.

Members of the Waycross Exchange Club are asked to gather at the funeral home at 10:40 a.m. Wednesday to serve as honorary pallbearers.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday (January 11, 2012) at Music Funeral Home Chapel.

Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be sent to Comfort Chapel Primitive Baptist Church, c/o Elder Mike DeVane, P.O. Box 717, Blackshear, GA 31516 or to the charity of your choice.
