BETTE E BROUSSEAU passed away peacefully with loved ones at her side on June 18, 2011, in Oro Valley, Ariz.
Bette was born Aug. 1, 1928 in Kansas City, Mo. She moved with her family to Los Alamos, N.M. in the fall of 1943 when her father, Rex Peters, was recruited as a machinist to help work on the Manhattan Project. She was a member of one of the first graduating classes of Los Alamos High School in 1946. Bette attended Stephens College in Columbia, Mo. and received an associate's degree in 1948. She returned to Los Alamos shortly after her graduation and married Armand T. Brousseau of Los Alamos. In addition to being a devoted mother, she was also an outstanding member of the Los Alamos community and dedicated her time and services to the Los Alamos Historical Society and Bradbury Science Museum.
Bette Brousseau was preceded in death by her son, Michael Brousseau and her parents Ennis Clay (Rex) and Flossie Peters. She is survived by her husband Armand T. Brousseau of Los Alamos; sister Jo Ann and brother-in-law Robert Foley of Albuquerque; daughter Theresa and son-in-law Earl Ridle of Brenham, Texas; daughter Deborah and son-in-law Scott Fry of Oro Valley, Ariz; daughter Bernadette and son-in-law Marc White of Las Cruces; son Patrick and daughter-in-law Katie Brousseau of Los Alamos; daughter Jeannette and son-in-law Lance Roselle of Schertz, Texas, along with many loving and devoted grandchildren, great-grandchildren and friends.
Services will be on June 24, 2011. A public burial will take place at 10:30 a.m. at Guaje Pines in Los Alamos. A memorial service and reception will follow at 11:15 a.m. at Trinity on the Hill Episcopal Church in Los Alamos. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Los Alamos Historical Society or the Alzheimer's Foundation.
