John D. Stetler

VAN WERT - John Doyle Stetler, 81, formerly a long-time resident of Willshire, passed away at his residence in Van Wert on Saturday, May 29, 2010.

He was born on September 12, 1928 in Willshire, OH to Raymond L. Stetler and Jessie A. (Earhardt) Stetler, both of whom are deceased. He married Letta M. Walls on September 17, 1950 in Van Wert, Ohio and she survives.

Stetler was a life-long member of the Willshire United Methodist Church, where he held many offices of the church. Doyle was a founding member of the Willshire Sportsmens Club where he remained active.

He was a Willshire Township dairy farmer, a school bus driver with Parkway and Willshire Schools and was employed at the GE Decatur, IN. Stetler also served as a member of the Parkway School Board.

He is survived by his wife, Letta M. Stetler of Van Wert; five daughters, Nancy M. (Donald Gray) Stetler of Warren, IN, Brenda K. (Steve) Johnson of Ohio City, OH, Marilyn R. (Donny) Baxter of Willshire, OH, Penny Sue (Calvin) Heller of Kingston, Tennessee, and Jody M. (Tom) Bigham Venedocia, OH; a sister, Marjorie Knittle of Spencerville, OH; grandchildren, Ryan & Dena Dailey, B.G. Baxter, Trudy Baxter, Brittany & Savannah Bigham; four great-grandchildren: Sidney, Libby, Maddy, and Josie Baxter.

He was preceded in death by four grandchildren, Karmen & Tina Baxter, Jacob & Jessica Heller; a sister and brother in infancy; three sisters, Alice M. DeArmond, Doris Poling, and Louise Huffine.

A service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 3 in the Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur, IN. Pastor Bud Larimore (SP) will officiate. A burial will follow in Willshire Cemetery in Willshire, Ohio.

Visitation will take place from 1:30 - 4:00 and 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 2, 2010 in the Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur, IN.

Preferred memorials are to the Willshire Sportsmens Club.
