Bertha Johnson, 93, Valley City, N.D., died Tuesday, April 20, 2010, at the Sheyenne Care Center, Valley City.

Bertha Mae Maine was born Dec. 2, 1916, in Elk Point, Alberta, Canada, the daughter of Roy and Stella (Willie) Maine. Her mother died when she was 2. She and her sister then moved to Minnesota to live with their grandparents. She moved to Valley City five years later. She married Avery Johnson on Nov. 19, 1934, at the Congregational Church parsonage, Valley City. They moved to Pahokee, Fla. They returned to North Dakota in 1938 and lived on the Johnson family farm near Urbana. They retired from farming in 1975. They lived in Lady Lake, Fla., and on the farm until 1987 when they moved to Valley City. He died in 1994. She moved to Bridgeview Estates, Valley City, in 1997 and into the Sheyenne Care Center, Valley City, in 2001. She was a member of the Congregational United Church of Christ, Valley City, and Circle 3 of the church.

She is survived by two sons, Mitch (Helen), Spiritwood Lake, N.D., and Stan (Susan), Valley City; a daughter, Linda, Jamestown; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Saturday, Congregational United Church of Christ, Valley City.

Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Lerud-Schuldt Funeral Home, Valley City, and one hour before the service at the church.

Burial: Hillside Cemetery, Valley City.
