Ella was quite active in her community through her church. She was a member of Saint Paul Methodist Church in Manitowoc. She also was a member of the Women's Relief Corps (in 1930 Ella was elected senior vice president of the W.R.C), Women's Society of Christian Service, Women's Benefit Association, Noble Grands, the Dorcas Society and Rebekahs. Among other leading functions Ella held meetings and picinics at their summer cottage in Manitowoc Rapids for the Women's Benefit Association, the Dorcas Society and the Ladies Aid Society of Saint Paul Methodist Episcopal Church. She had no children.
