He was a minister of the Evangelical Association and a trustee of the Paradise Church, which his parents donated the land to build. He married Ellen Lohr Aug 28, 1870 in her father Jacob's home. They had five children Ross Lohr, Mary Ann, Hannah Lohr, Ada, and an infant son.
