MRS ELIZABETH GRAPESMrs. Elizabeth Grapes died at her home in this city Wednesday morning, May 23rd, 1917, death being caused from a stroke of paralysis. Mrs. Grapes had been in her usual good health until within an hour of her death when she complained of being ill, and before her family could be summoned she passed away. Funeral services were held at the home Friday morning. conducted by Rev. W. A. Montgomery of Manchester. The remains were then taken to the Bay church, where services were conducted by the Rev. G. J. Chalice of Buck Creek. Interment was made in the Bay cemetery.Mrs. Grapes was born in Wyoming, Jones county, August 17th, 1849, and was 57 years 9 months and 6 days old at the time of her death. She was united in marriage with Mr. Jeremiah Grapes April 11, 1870. To them were born nine children, all of whom survive their mother. The children are Theodore Grapes of Hazel Green Township; William H. Grapes, Annie Heiserman, James T. Grapes, Jennie Pohlman and Hannah Grapes, all of Manchester; Thomas C. Grapes of Delhi; George W. Grapes of Delaware, and Frank E. Grapes of Earlville. Mr. Grapes died on a farm near Manchester February 10, 1914.Mrs. Grapes had been a resident of Delaware county for many years and was well known by a large circle of friends. Last March she and her son came to Manchester from the Bailey's Ford neighborhood, where they had lived during the past few years.In early life she united with the Methodist Episcopal church of the Bay settlement, retaining her membership in that church until her death.Her sudden passing has brought a deep sorrow to the children, who suffer the loss of a devoted mother.
