The Joseph Herald for February 9, 1906, reports Lela as a guest at a surprise party given for her friend, Gertrude Warnock, where "games were enjoyed by all."
Lela married Fred Elmer German October 14, 1908, at her parents' home.
She and Fred were living in Joseph and when her first baby was due, Fred went for Dr. Fleenor. Although the doctor was dead drunk he agreed to follow Fred home. It was a difficult delivery and when the doctor seized the baby to pull it out, he lost his balance and he and baby fell backwards. The baby struck its head and was killed. Fred went for his gun but Dr. Fleenor was gone. The doctor recorded the birth of the baby, April 26, 1910, but did not record the deaths The baby is buried in Prairie Creek Cemetery.
Lela wanted to move where medical facilities were available so the couple moved to Michigan where they bought a one hundred acre farm in Farmington Township near Walled Lake. They raised apples, pears, and dairy cows.
Lela raised chickens, sold eggs and helped with the fruit crops and and other farm work. She and Fred retired in 1955, sold the farm, and moved to Dearborn.
Lela died December 6, 1960 at Dearborn and was buried at the Franklin Cemetery three days later.
