Mrs. Joseph H. Guernsey passed away at her home in the southwest part of Holyoke, Saturday following an illness of several months.


She was affected with cancer several months ago and had it removed last August. Since that time her health has failed rapidly until the end of her suffering came.

Mrs. Guernsey was one of the oldest settlers of the county, coming to Colorado in the Eighties and living in Phillips county most of the time since.


The funeral was held Monday at the Christian church, conducted by the pastor of the Christian church of Julesburg, and interment was made in to Holyoke cemetery.


She leaves to mourn her loss. her husband, two sons, three daughters, and thirteen grandchildren, besides a host of friends in this community.

Mr. Guernsey was born at Valparaiso, Indiana, September 28, 1859, and was married to Lydia Mason January 1, 1880. They began their married life at Independence, Kansas, but in 1887 moved to Phillips County, where they homesteaded the farm now owned and operated by Henry Struckmeyer.


Mrs. Guernsey died in December 1923, and since that time Mr. Guernsey has made his home with his daughter most of the time.
