Funeral service for Mr. Joe Larson Neighbors, 80, of Alexander City, will be Friday, January 6, 2012 at 11:00 am at the Chapel of Radney Funeral Home. Rev. Mike Jackson and Rev. Richard Hall, Jr. will officiate. Burial will follow in the Hillview Memorial Park with veteran's honors provided by the U.S. Air Force Honor Guard. The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 5, 2012 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Radney Funeral Home.

Mr. Neighbors passed away on Wednesday, January 4, 2012 at Russell Medical Center. He was born on October 5, 1931 in Tallapoosa County, Alabama to Alva Neighbors and Grace Conaway Neighbors. He was a member of Kellyton First United Methodist Church. Mr. Neighbors retired from the Air National Guard with 20 years of service as a Master Sgt., and then retired from the Federal Civil Service after 21 years of service. Mr. Neighbors worked for Russell Corp. Bleachery as a Maintenance Technician for 20 years also. He lived in Goodwater for 15 years, moved to Montgomery for 21 years, and retired and moved back to Alexander City. Mr. Neighbors loved fishing, hunting, Auburn University, and most of all, spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Jessie Ruth Estes Neighbors of Alexander City; daughter, Glenda Neighbors Cardwell (Ricky) of Rockford; son, Joe Neighbors, Jr. (Susan) of Alexander City; grandchildren, Renee Hall (Richard) of New Site, Freddy Neighbors (Tina) of Chelsea, Amanda Carones (Francesco) of Milon, Italy, and Darrell Cardwell (Clarice) of Alpine; great-grandchildren, Rachel, Lauren Grace, and Lyndsay Hall all of New Site, Will and Caroline Neighbors both of Chelsea, and Carson, Mackenzie, Reagan, and D.J. Cardwell all of Alpine; step-great grandchildren, Martina
and Celeste Carones both of Milon, Italy; brothers, John Guy Neighbors of Alexander City, Larry Neighbors of Thomaston, GA; and sisters, Melba Hagan and Gladys Thompson both of Alexander City.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Virginia Windham, Justine White, June Rhodes, and Nell Forehand; and brothers, Ralph Neighbors, Pinson "Pete" Neighbors, and Gene Neighbors.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be given to the American Cancer Society, 3054-C McGehee Road, Montgomery, AL 36111.
