1st marriage, Mar. 23, 1856, Daniel Burger
----------
Mrs. Sarah E. Votaw, almost a life long resident of Alliance and community and one of the oldest of the people of the city in point of years, died at the home of her son, Elgie Burger, 131 East Harrison Street, Alliance, Ohio on Wednesday evening at 8:45 o'clock.

Death was due to a complication of troubles and came following an illness of two weeks. Her age was 81 years.
Mrs. Votaw was the daughter of David and Catharine Klingaman, one of a family of fourteen children and was born near the West Beech church southeast of Alliance in Stark County, August 30, 1836, and with the exception of four years spent in Illinois and two years in Indiana had ever resided in this part of Ohio. Deceased was a life long member of the United Brethren church and a true and noble Christian woman. Throughout her life she was devoted to the things that made for the best of home and community, in sickness or need she ever gave a helping hand, and no woman was perhaps more universally esteemed.

She was twice married her first husband being Daniel Burger, the marriage having (taken) place March 23, 1856.
To this union was born eight children, six sons and two daughters, three of whom alone survive the mother, Mrs. L. G. (Salinda) Ailes of Bourbon, Indiana, William Harrison Burger of South Haven, Michigan, and Elgie Burger at whose home she died. The husband and father died April 25, 1868, the family home then being in Illinois.

Her second marriage was with Thomas Votaw of Alliance, Ohio, October 19, 1876, Mr. Votaw being a grocer of the city, conducting store on North Walnut Avenue. He died July 11, 1888. No children were born of the latter marriage. Eleven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren also survive.

Of the parental family of deceased three brothers and one sister are yet living, William Klingaman of Packwood, Iowa; Nathan Klingaman of Canton, Ohio; Zephaniah Klingaman and Mrs . Lucy Waitman of Alliance, Ohio.

Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at two o'clock from the United Brethren Church, corner North Union Avenue and Ely Street, Rev. J.B. Kirsch, the pastor, to have charge. Burial will be made in Alliance Cemetery. Friends may call at the home, 131 East Harrison Street any time Friday or Saturday.
